Why I joined: Board Member Abigail Hayo Shares Her Passion for UAF
What year did you join UAF?
I am not positive but I think Nepal was my first trip with UAF.
Who or what brought you into the organization and why did you join in as a volunteer?
Having been friends with the Alex family for years and my experience in delivering aid internationally, it only made sense to get involved.
Describe the missions you have participated in- what kind of direct aid did you deliver and where?
Nepal, Bahamas, Mali, Romania, Puerto Rico, Kentucky, Houston. Storytelling, scouting, errands, whatever is needed.
What is your favorite or most memorable UAF experience?
Mali. One Global Village and UAF partnering, and hosting the UAF team in the Village. But, every experience with UAF is incredible. The volunteers are everything. My mom used to tell me, "water seeks its own level." That could not be truer for this like-minded group. And the people we serve, always so grateful and appreciative.
What do you envision or hope for UAF to accomplish in the next 20 years?
My hope is that there would not be a need for UAF to provide direct aid; however it is inevitable. We will be there, usually the first ones there.
